Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at a service?

At St. Peter's, we follow the Book of Common Prayer for all of our worship services. Our worship is rooted in the ancient traditions of the church. It is joyful, participatory, and engages all the senses. You can expect uplifting songs and hymns, meaningful prayers, and a challenging and encouraging sermon. You can expect a warm community that will be glad to have you as our guest.

How should I dress?

You'll find a wide variety of dress at St. Peter's, from shorts and T-shirts to three-piece suits. You'll be welcome however you choose to come.

What options are there for children on Sunday mornings?

Children and young families are welcome at both of our Sunday services. We are thankful for the presence of children among us! At our 10:30am service on Sunday we offer a children’s homily.

We encourage children and families to worship together on Sunday, and families may wish to sit toward the front so that young children can take in the beauty of worship.

We offer nursery care for children 4 and under during our 10:30am service.

We offer Godly Play for our Sunday school program at 9:30am for preschoolers through 5th graders. A Youth class for older students is also available.

What are the differences between the two Sunday services?

Both of our Sunday services offer Holy Communion and a sermon.

The 7:30am service is quiet and contemplative. The language used in worship is more traditional and we do not typically have music. It is a wonderful way to start your Sunday.

Our 10:30am service features fantastic music led by our organist, choir, and classical guitarist. The service is typically chanted. Children in second-grade and above serve as acolytes at 10:30. We also offer a children’s homily before the sermon and children’s chapel during the sermon for our youngest members.

What do Episcopalians believe?

Episcopalians confess our beliefs in the words of the Nicene and Apostles' Creeds. We also express our beliefs through the worship found in the Book of Common Prayer.

What classes are available for adults on Sundays?

We offer adult formation at 9:30am. each Sunday. Recent classes have covered lectionary readings, the practice of sabbath, the liturgical year, and stewardship and the Christian life. .

How do I become a member?

The real answer is, "It depends." The best way to find out is to get in touch with Fr. Drew to discuss your religious background and desire for membership.

Who can receive communion?

In the Episcopal Church, all baptized people regardless of age or denomination are welcome to receive communion. We receive both the bread and the wine. Simply place your hands out to receive the bread and guide the chalice to your lips to receive the wine.

If you prefer to receive a blessing instead, you can come to the communion rail and indicate this desire by crossing your arms in front of you.

What is the difference between Rite I and Rite II?

You will sometimes hear us describe our services this way. Rite I uses more traditional language, while Rite II uses more contemporary language. Our 7:30am service uses Rite I, while the 10:30am service uses Rite II.
