Community Outreach
St. Peter’s supports many organizations both local and in the broader world by sending prayers, volunteers, and financial support. All of these organizations our near to the heart of our community. See how you can get involved and make a difference.
If you desire to make a financial contribution you are invited to donate to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund or the Mission Fund at any time. Please be sure to communicate how your gift should be used.
Hosanna House
The Hosanna Community is a non-profit whose mission is to foster independence for adults with disabilities while living together in community.
Metropolitan Ministries
MetMin stops homelessness before it starts and provides recovery services for those who’ve already fallen into homelessness. Help means emergency financial assistance combined with stabilizing, wrap-around services to keep the crisis from recurring. MetMin provides a safety net for those with late utility bills, past due rent payments, and food insecurity.
Chatt Foundation
The Chatt Foundation meets the basic needs of those who are hungry, experiencing homelessness, or otherwise vulnerable members of our community while offering a clear path to self-sufficiency. The Community Kitchen is open every day of the year and offers bathrooms, showers, day shelter, meals, clothing, case management, housing assistance...and much more.
Each year the congregation donates the proceeds of “Fast Day”. This is an event in which parishioners forgo a meal at a restaurant and make a donation with the money they would have used. Soup is provided by parishioners to share with one another.
Neighborhood Needs
This ministry was established to feed hungry children at our neighborhood school, Dupont Elementary. Parishioners are asked to donate a healthy snack to the school, so that if a student is hungry during or after school, the teachers do not have to pay our of their own pockets to feed their students. Monetary donations also help purchase hygiene supplies and other necessities.
Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti (CNP)
The purpose of Children’s Nutrition Program is to help raise a healthy generation of Haitian children who can, in turn, raise Haiti from poverty. St. Peter’s provides opportunities for support throughout the year to the Monitrices, Haitian women who are trained to educate and empower new mothers and their children as they move toward health and wellness.
Welcome Home of Chattanooga
Welcome Home is a local non profit that provides shelter, meals, activities and care for people who are homeless and nearing the end of their lives. By partnering with area hospices who provide the professional medical care, Welcome Home is able to provide love, grace, and forgiveness during the final season of people's lives.
Their belief is that all people should die surrounded by love and compassionate care. The belief that everyone has purpose and that at the end of their lives they should feel important and know they will be remembered.
The St. Peter's congregation organizes volunteers to provide a meal for the residents of Welcome Home each month. Congregants are invited to stay and have the meal with the volunteers and residents at Welcome Home if they would like to. Offering time and understanding around a table with others can be a powerful way to connect with those we are hoping to assist.
Chattanooga Room in the Inn
Chattanooga Room in the Inn is a three to nine month residential program for homeless women and children. Services include transitional housing, meals, access to free or affordable health care, life skills training, budgeting, parenting classes, mentoring, assistance with finding employment and case management.
St. Peter's provides practical gifts for women and children at Christmas time. As well as Wal Mart gift cards that can be used year round to assist women with basic needs to get back on their feet after entering the residential program. Many women arrive at the shelter with very little clothing or belongings.
